Sometimes devotees look for very mechanical processes, but bhakti is not a mechanical process. You can try to perform bhakti in a mechanical way for millions of births, but without the mind and without the heart bhakti will not manifest. Bhakti devi will not manifest herself in the heart of that person who is not actually trying to achieve her. So prayer is required.
