Niranjana Swami's Quote Of The Day

May 20

You are right; one should not keep a superficial relationship with the spiritual master. Personal association certainly helps; but hearing from the spiritual master builds the foundation for the personal association. I am therefore making every effort to increase my availability to my disciples by providing recorded material and written material for this association, especially considering that it is becoming increasingly more difficult for me to maintain such a rigorous traveling schedule as I have been accustomed to for the last 15 years. There is no other way to find shelter than to find shelter at the lotus feet of the Lord. And for those devotees who are in this material world, that shelter is found by always discussing the topics of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and hearing the topics of the Supreme Lord in the association of devotees.

Just know that if you ever have a choice of fulfilling your needs and those of your other family members by a different means of livelihood, which would be more conducive for your Krishna consciousness, as opposed to keeping the same means of livelihood just because you want to make more money so that you can give big donations for Krishna, then your Krishna consciousness is more important to me than big donations. I am happiest when my disciples are making progress in their Krishna consciousness. Everything else will follow in a natural way.

We may attract so many followers, and the more followers we attract, if we don't actually lead them to devotional service to the Lord, we become responsible; we fall in the ditch and everyone falls with us.

Sometimes we are tested. Sometimes we may feel "I don't think I have strength to make it through this. What can I do?" These are the most precious moments for the devotee. This is the turning point in the life of the devotee, because at this point it is so clear: "I am helpless."

We don't have to present Krishna consciousness in any other way than simply to relish it ourselves. That is what makes Krishna consciousness attractive.

If a disciple rejects the spiritual master, the spiritual master is not obliged to take such a disciple back to Godhead. Although sometimes out of his mercy, out of kindness, he may do this. So is not that simply if one takes initiation, that actually he gets a ticket back to Godhead. As Prabhupada it makes clear in Nectar of Devotion, if a disciple rejects instructions of the spiritual master, he once again becomes fallen.

To be far away from the Lord means that one doesn't see Krishna connected to what one is doing. In other words if one simply thinks that I am doing this to please myself, if one tries to derive pleasure from that activity, that very desire brings him completely away from the Lord.

One actually has to come to the platform of goodness before he can come to the transcendental platform. Therefore one has to perform one's duties because they have to be done, and any obstacle in the execution of one's duties increases one's determination to hear about Krishna.

It is completely contradictory to think of the welfare of others while defending one's own false ego. Only a person who is actually free from false ego can genuinely feel compassion for the welfare of others.
