Srila Prabhupada's Quote Of The Day

October 12

Our success is our enthusiasm. So everything we do should be done with enthusiasm, the chanting, reading, and following the rules and regulations.

Letter to Hamsaduta, 12 October, 1973

We are at liberty to make our choice. If we want to enjoy this material world, Krsna will provide it, provide all facilities. You can enjoy. But Krsna says that you'll never be happy, never be happy. You'll simply be more entangled. More entangled means now I have got this human form of body, but according to my desire at the time of death I may get another body, which may not be human form of body. There are eight million four hundred thousand forms of bodies. I can get one of them. These are very subtle things. One has to understand it. Yam yam vapi smaran bhavam tyajaty ante kalevaram [Bg. 8.6]. At the time of death our next body will be decided according to my mental condition.

This Krsna consciousness movement is that try to understand Krsna, as Krsna is speaking in the Bhagavad-gita. Don't mal-interpret. Don't be foolish, that " Krsna means this, Kuruksetra means that," manufacture some words and you be also foolish and make others foolish. No. Try to understand Bhagavad-gita as it is. Then you'll understand everything.

The Vedic instruction is so nice that the soul, when he jumps over this material ocean, the Vedic instruction teaches him how to swim and come back again to the shore. This swimming process, according to Vedic instruction, is called sacrifice, charity and penance. One who learns these techniques of swimming over the ocean of nescience, he goes back to home, back to Godhead. One who does not take to this swimming process, he becomes drowned. In the Bhagavad-gita this is stated iccha dyesa samutthena... svarge yanti parantapa which means deluded by desire to enjoy the material world and becoming envious of Krishna, one comes to this material world. (Bhagavad-gita 7.27). So read our literature profusely and you will get sufficient knowledge.

Letter to Upendra, 9 October, 1971

Lord Visnu has nothing to do with these material affairs, as a big man, a rich man has nothing to do personally, but he gets things done by his assistant, by his servant. It is like that. In the Vedas also, Upanisad, it is said, na tasya karyam karanam ca drisyate. Lord Visnu has nothing to do personally. Na tasya karyam karanam ca vidyate, na tat-samas cabhyadhikas ca drsyate. Nobody is equal to Him, neither nobody is greater than Him. Everyone is below. Therefore visnu-tattva is asamordhva. Nobody is equal, nobody is higher. To consider equal to visnu-tattva is aparadha, offense. Caitanya Mahaprabhu has warned this offense very strictly.

Lecture on Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.7.51-52, Vrindavan, October 8, 1976

In some of the Vedic literatures, it is said that Atmanam Sarvato Rakshet, that means one should give first protection to the soul. Then he should take care of his particular type of faith, then he should take care of the material things, namely this body, and anything in relation with this body, or wealth. Please try to read all our books very carefully, and whenever there is any doubt, you ask me, and be expert preacher. That will make you a great doctor for protecting the human society from being fallen a victim to maya.

Letter to Tosana Krishna, 7 October, 1968

From the pictures it appears that the Deity worship is going on very nicely. Krishna is very satisfied by His face. He looks very healthy. He is very fond of milk and butter. He is a butter thief. You have now got cows, so offer nicely.

Letter to Madhavananda Das, 6 October, 1974

Gradually, when you are well behaving, then you shall be initiated to chant Hare Krsna mantra. That will give you strength, spiritual power. Strictly observe the regulative principles - no illicit sex, no meat-eating, no intoxication, no gambling. It is very simple. Read these literatures, chant Hare Krsna mantra, and observe these regulations. Then you will become gradually powerful. Your speeches will be effective. People will like you.

Your plan to spend up to one month in each big university city sometimes taking an apartment for conducting regular evening meetings is approved by me. But do not open any permanent centers, just take the apartment for a month and then move onto another city.

Letter to Satsvarupa, 4 October, 1973

Another thing I request is that everything in the Temple should be kept nice and clean. Everyone should wash hands before touching anything of Krishna's. We should always remember that Krishna is the purest & similarly only the pure can associate with Him. Cleanliness is next to Godliness.
