Srila Prabhupada's Quote Of The Day

June 2

I therefore sometimes like these hippies because they have a spirit of renunciation. That is very good position. Simply they require jnana, or knowledge. Then their life will be successful. To bring one to the platform of renunciation, that is a very difficult job. Especially when one has got nice wife, nice home, nice bank balance, it is very, very difficult. So there is a version by Krsna that one who is anxious to take Krsna consciousness, but he is entrapped by this binding-nice wife, nice children, nice home, nice bank balance - so Krsna, in order to give them, give such devotee, facility, He takes away.

The example of Naradaji, that when he realized Krishna in his previous life, that life and next life, there is no difference. The example is given sometimes in the coconut skin when it is dried up, the fruit within the covering of coconut is hard. And if the coconut is shaken, it is found that the coconut fruit is moving within. Because it has dried up and broken away from the inner walls of the coconut skin. So it has nothing to do with the outer skin, even though it appears that it is within that skin. Similarly, when one is purely in Krishna Consciousness, it may appear that he is within the material existence, but actually he has nothing to do with it. He is dried up, like the coconut fruit; and that process of drying-up is forgetting all sense gratification, and executing Krishna Consciousness full time. So, when one is purely in Krishna Consciousness, his present life and in future life are identical.

Unless you take shelter of Krsna or His representative, there is no possibility of being detached from this material enjoyment.

Nothing is good if it is not purposeful. That is the whole purpose of teaching Bhagavad-gita. Nothing is good; nothing is bad. Everything is good, everything is bad, in this material world, but we have to see. Just like the common phrase goes, "The end justifies the means." So that is Krsna teaching here that He has nothing to gain. He is full in Himself. But just to set examples in the world He was taking part in the fighting because He wanted to establish it that fighting for good cause should not be avoided. That was His mission.

Prahlada Maharaja said that "I don't want my liberation alone. Unless I deliver all these fools who are rotting in this material world, I do not want my personal liberation." This is Vaisnava philosophy. The Mayavadi philosophers, they are going to Himalayas or some secluded place for personal benefit. But a Vaisnava, he has no desire for personal benefit. The personal benefit is already there in Vaisnava because he's in touch with the Supreme Lord by his service.

I am so glad to note that Sri Gaura-Nitai Deities are already finished. The color is molten gold or bright yellow resembling golden color but don't apply gold paint. The eyes should be nicely painted. You have got the idea; you have seen many pictures and I am seeing from here that you are doing nicely.

Regarding your writing, this is very much wanted, but I think that it is better if you write articles, not books. Write articles that can be printed in our Back to Godhead magazine. That will be very nice. Also, be very sure that you always maintain a high spiritual standard by following all of the rules and regulations very carefully. Chant 16 rounds minimum daily and study my books deeply.

No part of the world is nowadays sufficient rain. Because they are not performing yajna. Sometimes it is seen that over-rain, overflood, not systematic. But if you perform yajna, there will be systematic rainfall, which you can utilize properly. Yajnad bhavati parjanyah. [Bg. 3.14]: "Rains are produced by performance of yajna {sacrifice}."
