Niranjana Swami's Quote Of The Day

August 3

In the purport to the second canto of Srimad Bhagavatam, Srila Prabhupada says that easy life and Krishna consciousness can’t go together. You can't put it together. You can try to fit it together but it won't happen. If you want to try to have both, then forget about it. And if you want to an easy life then you also have forget about Krishna consciousness because the only one thing that makes life easier is that you are always remembering Krishna. That’s the only thing that makes life more worth living. So you cannot get an easy life and Krishna consciousness together. So you have to practice, and this is not so easy. You will have to force your mind to try to hear and try to understand the message and by that practice, by that endeavor, Krishna will help you. But it is not so easy to get that help, and Prabhupada also says it in the purport in the second canto of Srimad Bhagavatam. Krishna wants to see how painstakingly willing we are to accept the instructions of the Spiritual Master. Then we will get the result.

A devotee feels fully satisfied with the service itself, and therefore that is how the devotee is always feeling maintained by Krishna. He therefore accepts whatever Krishna gives him to use for his service. And if Krishna doesn't give - "I don't need it". This is how he is thinking. He is fully satisfied.

Krishna gives intelligence to those who are constantly devoted to Him. Not to those who are constantly devoted to the concept of power or the concept of fame or the concept of fortune or for their great intellect. Krishna doesn’t give intelligence to those who are devoted to themselves. Krishna gives intelligence to those who are devoted to Him.

If we are genuinely humble, we don’t try to create the impression that we are humble. In fact, that motivation is not even there. A person who is genuinely humble doesn’t think that he is going create an impression of being humble. The symptom of his humility is that he is avoiding glorification.

When your heart becomes cleaned, then you realize mission of the spiritual master more and more and your role there will be also very clear because you will realize that you are the eternal servant of Krishna and serving his order is non-different from serving Krishna. Although we may be not compassionate, if we try to please one who is compassionate, then we will develop compassion. So it is natural that we develop good qualities by association with those who have qualities we want to develop. That’s the power of association.

This chanting is the most important out of any other devotional service which you might render. And it is by this chanting that you can satisfy me. Everything else will follow if your chanting remains the foundation of your spiritual life.

This is what is happening to those who are too much materially attached: being too much attached to the reflection, they have to remain bound by that reflection. Therefore they stay in the material world suffering. Therefore a vaishnava is always trying to point to the source of that reflection. He knows that if the living entity wants to get out of this deep dark well of material existence, he must develop the attraction to the source of the light.
