Niranjana Swami's Quote Of The Day

July 23

Because Krishna doesn’t want to see us stay in the material world any longer, He becomes so pleased even by the smallest effort just to simply turn somebody’s attention to Krishna. And that’s how we get Krishna's attention.

If we actually offer sincere prayers, even if we are put in difficulty, we will experience Krishna's direct participation in our life and will see how He helps us to overcome such a difficult situation. Even that which is apparently painful still becomes a source of relief when we remember Krishna.

We may not fully understand what is the ultimate plan, what is my role in this plan, what am I suppose to accomplish in this life. First one should become obedient to Krishna, and then everything else will become revealed to him.

So the question is not "Are you qualified?" but rather more appropriately it is "Are you desiring?" If your desire to continue your service is not strong, then it can be philosophically concluded that you will cultivate the desire for something else. But even if that is the case, then you still must depend upon Lord Krishna for the fulfillment of your desire.

Due to association, which develops from affection, you might already justify within yourself that, "Actually, why shouldn't I appreciate nondevotional qualities? Maybe Krishna consciousness is too fanatic?” etc. etc. Gradually, the power of discrimination will decrease, affection towards the material energy will increase, and you will no longer be able to identify yourself as a spirit soul, part and parcel of Krishna.

Kirtan is the means for conquering the mind. To engage in smaranam one has to be very, very advanced. Only very few can engage in smaranam, but kirtan is accessible and available to anyone.

What is devotional service? It’s the awakening of desire. That is how devotional service begins. The awakening of the desire to have something else besides everything my mind says, everything my senses say… the awakening of the desire to achieve Krishna.

If we want to get Krishna's love, we have to offer something to Krishna with love. We must perform sacrifice for His pleasure. When there are difficulties, when there are obstacles externally and within our own hearts, we pray for the removal of those obstacles which are preventing us from dancing for Krishna’s love. This is sadhana.

The spiritual master may finally sanction somebody’s activities because they are so persistent, but we should not think that this is actually what is most pleasing to the spiritual master. We should try to understand what is most pleasing to the spiritual master. He wants to see us advance in Krishna consciousness. He wants to see us surrendering to Krishna's lotus feet. He wants to see us becoming happy in Krishna consciousness. And if we want to become happy we have to become happy on the transcendental platform and to give up all our calculations of happiness according our previous conception of happiness.
