Niranjana Swami's Quote Of The Day

November 28

A devotee is one who distributes Krsna’s mercy.

November 27

Sometimes to fulfill our material ambitions we speak half-truths. Half-truths are still lies. Half-truths are what we think others want to hear, even though they do not contain the full story. If we speak the whole story, our plans will be ruined, so we leave out whatever will cause us difficulty. If we want to learn to uphold truth, we must learn to depend on Krsna for the outcome.

November 26

Sometimes a person refused to tell the truth because he thinks the other person won’t like it. Prabhupada insists that the truth must nonetheless be spoken. We are meant to be straightforward in our dealings. We should not hide the truth.

November 25

When we hear of the Lord and His devotees sharing transcendental pastimes, we feel pleased. These pastimes cleanse the heart of all dirt. When our heart becomes clean, we will develop the qualities listed by Narada Muni in his instruction to Maharaja Yudhisthira. Possessing these qualities is essential if we hope to teach others how to behave like human beings.

November 24

We are meant to be teachers of human society. We are supposed to show the world how to behave like human beings, because most people are behaving like animals. If we wish to have any hope of becoming Vaisnavas, we have to start by becoming human beings.

Lectures from a disciple, Vol 1, p. 345. SB 4.2.21 Moscow, 10.27.96

November 23

Sometimes we think that the Krsna consciousness movement is transcendental and that we don’t have to conform to the standards of human morality. That is not what Srila Prabhupada taught. He taught us to approach these qualifications by engaging in bhakti-yoga, especially hearing of the Lord’s pastimes and qualities.

November 21

Srila Prabhupada expected the members of the Krsna consciousness movement to embody brahminical qualities and teach society how to become elevated so that everyone can come to the platform of devotional service.

November 22

We should look within our hearts to see how attached we are to position or opulence. How much are we promoting ourselves based on falsely renounced positions? If we are not careful, we may find ourselves implicated on the bodily platform and committing Vaisnava aparadha.

November 20

Our position as devotees is established on the strength of our detachment from the material world. As we know, one is detached from the material world to the degree that he is attached to rendering service to Krsna. That kind of detachment is considered superior renunciation. To use our wealth, position, intelligence — whatever Krsna has given us — in His service is a far superior form of renunciation than to reject such things without understanding their relationship with Krsna.

Lectures from a disciple, Vol 1, p. 341. SB 4.2.21 Moscow, 10.27.96

November 19

Unless our attachments are uprooted from the heart, we will not be able to know the Supreme Lord. Only those who are detached from matter can know Krsna. Only those who have a sincere desire in their hearts to serve Him can know Krsna.
